Pure Alkyd Resins
Short Oil Coconut Alkyd Solution – For durable high gloss baking enamels. Used as a plasticizing resin for nitrocellulose and vinyl resins. Typical applications include automotive enamels and lacquers, furniture lacquers, enamels for metal equipment and fixtures.
Medium Linseed Alkyd – Offers excellent adhesion, flexibility and durability. Exhibits good drying properties. Produces paint film with good gloss retention. Recommended for industrial air-dry and baking enamels, automotive and machinery enamels, industrial metal primers.
Medium Soya Alkyd – Provides enamels with good adhesion, gloss and flexibility. Designed for architectural and industrial enamels. Different grades are available with varying viscosities to suit different needs.
Long Oil Soya Alkyd – Recommended for interior and exterior enamels, marine finishes, sign paints, and the manufacture of pigment pastes. Could also be used for silkscreen inks.
Modified Alkyd Resins
Rosin and Phenolic – Modified Short Oil Linseed Alkyd – Provides coatings with fast-drying property, unusually good adhesion, excellent hardness and durability. For fast-drying industrial enamels, e.g., marine and furniture enamels, traffic paints. Grades are available for making lift-resistant primers and surfacers for lacquer systems.
Styrenated Alkyd-Acrylic Resin – Has outstanding combination of hardness and flexibility, good adhesion and toughness, good color and gloss retention even on overbaking. Recommended for use as sole vehicle or as an amino resin modified vehicle for roller, strip or coil coating of thin metals for cans, caps, closures and other formed articles.
Rosin-Modified Medium Soya – High viscosity grades are available to permit formulations of low solid cost-effective enamels at normal package consistency. Have outstanding drying characteristics and good pigment- wetting property. Recommended for cost-effective fast-dry enamels, traffic paints, shop coat primers, and economical drum coatings. May also be used as a modifier for pure oxidizing and modified alkyds to speed up drying and improve gloss.
Urethane- Modified Long Oil Soya – Provides fast-drying varnishes with excellent abrasion resistance, good color and color retention, excellent leveling, and outstanding resistance to household chemicals and solvents.
The reactive types are used as curing agent for epoxy resins in various applications, e.g., floor coatings, epoxy primers and topcoats, lamination, casting, injectible epoxies, grouting, etc. The non-reactive types are used in flexographic and gravure inks.
Reactive Polyamides – Used as curing agents for epoxy resins in various coatings, laminating, casting, flooring and adhesives applications. Epoxy-polyamide coating systems provide good flexibility and high impact strength, good chemical resistance and excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates.
Non-Reactive Polyamides – Used in flexographic and gravure printing inks and overprint varnishes. Provide inks with fast solvent release which facilitates high
printing speed, excellent water and ice pack resistance, good blocking, gloss, and grease
resistance, excellent color retention that makes it suitable for white and pastel inks. Alcohol and co-solvent soluble grades are available.
The saturated types are recommended for high performance coatings, such as coatings for roofs, appliances, and other post-formable goods requiring a tough and very flexible coating. The unsaturated types are recommended for castings and reinforced plastics, tanks and pipes; well suited for matched-metal molding or hand lay-up.
Saturated Polyester Resins – Recommended for high performance applications, such as coatings for roof, appliances, aluminum siding and other post formable goods requiring a very flexible coating. Could also be used as primer for automotives. These resins provide tough and very flexible coatings with good mechanical properties and excellent chemical resistances, excellent adhesion through severe metal forming operations.
Unsaturated Polyester Resins – For forming plastics by casting, matched-metal molding or hand lay-up applications, e.g., stone crafts, skylight roofing, figurines, etc. Different grades are available with varying viscosities and curing characteristics to suit varying requirements.
Letterpress and offset inks — for quick-set and soap and alkali resistant inks, gloss mixing varnishes, overprint varnishes. For gravure and flexographic inks, sanding sealers, clear and pigmented lacquers, rubbing varnishes. As modifier for alkyd enamels.
Phenolic-Modified Rosin Ester – Provides inks with good scratch resistance and soap and alkali resistance. Used in letterpress and offset inks and varnishes.
Fumaric Modified – Provides varnishes with good ammonia solubility, excellent alcohol solubility and low odor. Provides inks with good film properties such as hardness, fair color, high gloss, toughness and resistance to various chemicals. Provides very rapid solvent release and permits heat sealing immediately after the applied inks have been set as a result of its extreme insolubility in petroleum solvents. Used in water-thinnable flexographic and gravure inks, in waxes and wood sealers.
Maleic Modified – Has excellent compatibility with most alkyd resins, nitrocellulose and oils and plasticizers. It imparts hardness and depth of finish when used as modifying resin in nitrocellulose lacquers. It also provides good rubbing, color retention and solvent release properties in sanding sealers and clear lacquers. Provides required hardness and gloss in overprint varnishes, imparts rapid bodying and provides exceptionally pale and color retentive varnishes for both air and baking finishes. Available in solid and solution form.
Isophthalic Hard Resin – Provides inks with high gloss, low color, and good scratch and chemical resistance. Used for gloss, non-yellowing overprint varnishes and mixing varnishes.
